New City, NY (January 21st, 2010) – Rockland County Legislator Ed Day recognized the New City Rams Pop Warner Junior Midget Cheerleaders and coaches for their success in earning regional and state titles. The squad, comprised of ten to 13 year-old girls, earned the titles, Eastern Region Champions and Empire State Classic Champions, in back to back competitions held in November 2009. The recognition took place in advance of the January 19th meeting of the Legislature.
Legislator Day, who also coaches football for the New City Rams, praised the squad for their commitment and hard work in support of their Pop Warner Football team and attested to how they encouraged enthusiasm among the spectators through their spirited cheers and carefully choreographed routines. “Your dual accomplishments were borne from hard work, dedication, and a selfless spirit. It is important that our community understands that we have special young people all around us, and government needs to recognize that whenever possible,” said Legislator Day.
The squad is a member of the nation-wide Pop Warner Spirit Program which provides youth the opportunity to perform in this sport in an organized, supervised and safety oriented environment.
