Now We Know Why Suffern's at the Top of the County Recycling Statistics

Last night The Suffern Chamber of Commerce and the Suffern Music and Arts Festival Committee met at Festival HQ to announce the postponement of the festival until 2010.  Read the Article Here

There was pizza and soda available.  (Not that I was partaking what with the SMAF Seismic Slimdown still in play and all)  As the meeting broke up with most participants pledging to remain committed to delivering on the grand vision that has been outlined, the leftover pizza was consolidated into one box given to an attendee (not a Seismic Slimdown participant I might add) to take home.

Then an amazing thing occured.  One of the SMAF volunteers, Jo Meegan-Corrigan, stacked the remaining empty pizza boxes up,  "It's recycle night in my part of the village" said Jo before she left,  "so I'll put them out when I get home."  Jo proceeded to schlep the boxes up Lafayette Avenue toward her home.

Taking on this type of responsibility, really taking ownership of and embracing & living by principles that benifit the community at large is one of the critical components makes our area a great place to live.

HP and their partner ASI recently finished up a tour of the Village in order to help Suffern become the "Greenest" Village in terms of printing in the country.  Based upon the statistics below, they certainly chose a great place to begin their Green Printing quest.

These are the latest statistics available on the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority's Website.

More recent statistics would be nice to see and perhaps we can do something about getting these published.

It would be very cool if the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority would sponsor a 'friendly' recycling contest amongst Villages or Towns on a per-capita basis.

With people like Jo Meeghan-Corrigan around, other towns and villages would really have to step up and deliver.
