Two cometitors stare each other down in the Seismic Slimdown.

The Suffern Music & Arts Festival kicked off the first training session in the SMAF Seismic Slimdown competition.  One of the most unique benefits of being a festival volunteer plays on the popularity of NBC’s “Biggest Loser” show.  It’s called “Give Back/Get Back SMAF Seismic Slimdown’.  This FREE 8-week contest is open to women only. SUFFERN – The curiosity surrounding which artists will be performing at the Suffern Music and Arts Festival has been great since planning for the event was announced and launched earlier this year. The curiosity is beginning to give way to reality with the Festival less than 90 days away.

JUNE 16, 2009: The Suffern Chamber of Commerce’s 1st Annual Music and Arts Festival mission is to revitalize the local and regional economy by being THE destination for Labor Day, 2009: September 5 and 6.  With an aggressive and viral marketing strategy, this community event has enticed local, regional, and national musicians and artists who embrace our mission.  It has also engaged the attention of key local, regional and national New York government officials and relevant regional business leaders, who believe that culture drives commerce.  Full Article

SUFFERN-The planning and preparation for the Suffern Music and Arts Festival is in full swing as evidenced by the reports presented by the various Festival committees.

The Festival Committee will soon be opening a storefront on Lafayette Avenue The festival storefront will serve as a central meeting place and information outlet for this all-volunteer endeavor. Volunteers have already stepped forward to operate the new HQ for a few hours each day.

Rapid progress is being made, organizational meetings have been held and excitement is building.  Most amazing of all so far is the can-do spirit exhibited by the all-volunteer organizing committee.

There are certain stereotypes that apply to military men and others that often get affixed to musicians. While both are usually a product of some Hollywood type’s over-active imagination, which admittedly makes for some good theater, neither rings true in daily life as often as one might think.
