Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe today announced that Regine Villard (DOB 08/05/88) of95 Fairview Avenue, Spring Valley, New York was arraigned on a Felony Complaint charging her with:
Between October 1, 2010, and May 31, 2011, Villard illegally received $2,354.12 in Medicaid assistance fromthe Rockland County Department of Social Services by allegedly failing to report that she had obtained healthinsurance from an employer.
According to the charges, the defendant submitted false information in support of a recertification applicationfor the public benefits.
Villard was arrested following a joint probe by the Rockland County Special Investigations Unit and theInvestigation Unit of the Rockland County Department of Social Services.
The Department of Social Services provides an opportunity for violators to make restitution prior to the filingof criminal charges. Because Villard failed to pay back all or part of the money, the case was turned over theDistrict Attorney for investigation and arrest.
The defendant was arraigned in the Village of Spring Valley Justice Court before the Honorable David Fried andreleased on her own recognizance.
She is due to return to court on June 20, 2012.
Villard faces up to four years in state prison, if convicted.
